What's inside

  1. Level 1: What You Have: Plans, IT Settings and Copilot AccessFree
Learners find out which Word features and Copilot capabilities their consumer, small-business or corporate plan includes, as checked on Microsoft's current pages with the date of checking, why IT may have switched features off, and that this course is independent of Microsoft.
  2. Level 2: Why Styles Matter: Direct Formatting vs StylesFree
Learners see why formatting text with styles, rather than formatting it by hand, makes documents consistent, easy to navigate, accessible and ready for Copilot, and they learn to spot hand formatting in existing files.
  3. Level 3: Setting and Modifying Styles
Learners change and create styles, including Normal, so that fonts, spacing and paragraph rules change across a whole document in one place.
  4. Level 4: Headings, Navigation, Contents and Multilevel Lists
Learners build a document structure from heading styles that runs the Navigation pane, an automatic table of contents and numbered multilevel headings and lists.
  5. Level 5: Page Layout and Section Breaks
Learners control margins, orientation, paper size and columns, and use section breaks to change the layout partway through a document.
  6. Level 6: Headers, Footers and Page Numbering
Learners build headers and footers that change by section, with a different first page, odd and even layouts, and page numbering that restarts or changes format.
  7. Level 7: Tables That Work, with Copilot
Learners build tables that are accessible and robust, with repeating header rows, sensible fitting and table styles, and use Copilot to create or restructure tables and then check the result.
  8. Level 8: Images and Objects That Stay Put
Learners place images, shapes and text boxes so they stay where intended, using wrapping, anchors and positioning options, and add alternative text.
  9. Level 9: Fixing Formatting Failures and Pasted Mess
Learners diagnose and repair common formatting failures, such as stray direct formatting, pasted web or email content, false lists and spacing made with blank lines, using paste options, Clear Formatting and Find and Replace.
  10. Level 10: Branded Templates: Themes and Brand Fonts
Learners build a reusable template (.dotx) that holds brand theme colours, brand fonts, styles and page setup, and learn where personal and organisational templates are stored.
  11. Level 11: Building Blocks and Quick Parts
Learners save reusable content, such as boilerplate text, cover pages, disclaimers and logos, as building blocks and Quick Parts stored in a template.
  12. Level 12: Captions, Cross-References and Citations
Learners manage long documents with automatic captions, cross-references that update themselves, a table of figures, and citations with a bibliography.
  13. Level 13: Copilot: Draft, Rewrite, Summarise and Verify
Learners use Copilot in Word to draft from their own files, rewrite and summarise content, then check every claim, figure and reference for invented facts before keeping it.
  14. Level 14: Review: Comments, Track Changes and Compare
Learners run a structured review using comments, tracked changes and Compare, and use Copilot where available to summarise feedback.
  15. Level 15: Co-Authoring, Sharing Links and Version History
Learners co-author in real time from OneDrive or SharePoint, choose the right sharing link and permissions, and restore earlier work from version history.
  16. Level 16: Accessibility Checks and PDF Export
Learners run the Accessibility Checker until the document passes, then export a tagged, accessible PDF and open PDFs in Word for editing.
  17. Level 17: Fillable Forms and Mail Merge
Learners build fillable forms with content controls and run a mail merge from a data source to letters, labels or emails.
  18. Level 18: Final Challenge: Draft to Finished Report and Template Exam
Learners bring together every skill in the course to turn a rough draft into a finished, accessible, reviewed report, verified where Copilot helped, and to extract a reusable branded template from it.
